YouTube Guide III - Why use YouTube?

Why use YouTube?

YouTube is one of the fastest growing online sites in the history of the internet.  From starting on Valentines Day in 2005, to its now over 46,296 YouTube videos watched every second.  So it's no wonder when people stress about their business not being a part of YouTube.  This blog will discuss the importance and power of using YouTube in getting your business brand known.

What's New with YouTube?

Recently YouTube made some amazing changes.  Perhaps one of the best is that, just like leaving Google Reviews, you must now have a Google+ account to leave a comment on a video.  Secondly, you are limited to the number of comments you are allowed to have.  This means there should be less of the long strings or arguments between users about particular videos and the users will now be held accountable for those comments.

Power of a Video

For those of you not up-to-date with YouTube, than it's time you learn some stuff.  YouTube, once just a word-of-mouth website started by three friends who had difficulty sharing some videos with each other.  The first video uploaded was a short 18 second film titled Me at the Zoo, in February of 2005, but it is now to a website where over 1 billion people visitors each month and 100 hours uploaded every minute.  So what does this mean to you?  It means that if your business is not interacting and connected to both Google and YouTube, than your business is already falling behind the pathway to online success.

The power of video also comes from the information relay.  Think about the amount of information that can be displayed in a short video compared to written text.  Pretty much, this entire Blog, in a video can be summarized in a matter of a minute or two, where it might take twice as long to read.

SEO and your Videos

As you know, coming up in a Google search or a YouTube search, means more traffic to your website, business site, or your personal profile.  Since YouTube is one of the largest search engines, and is owned by Google, it means Google search will also contain YouTube search results.  With the ability of adding labels and tags to your videos, a search has more chances to come up.  If you add the correct labels (see Your Business Guide to YouTube Part I) people will watch it just because it looks interesting, sounds interesting, or is along the lines of what they are looking for.  The more ties you have in you website and Google+, whether it is posting your videos or other peoples videos, the higher ranking you will have.  This 8 minute video does a great job of some suggestions to improve your video SEO.

Branding

The power of creating a company brand has been proven time and time again.  Think of all the hundred of brand symbols out there, such as Nike, Jordan, Target, and thousands of more.  Brands are what make a company stick in your mind.  When someone is watching a video, the brand you put to it will stick in their mind, both good or bad.  Videos allow you to add emotions to them, which then attribute emotion to your brand.  Having a strong emotional connection leaves you desiring it. Example, check out the Gatorade commercial.  Notice how much emotion it leaves and how many times they drop their brand.

Large Audience

If you area able to make a video that is worth sharing, than it most likely will be shared.  Videos with good content, attraction, and value have a high share-rate and thus, brings more people to view it.  The more times your videos are shared across multiple sites, social networks, and other places, the larger audience you will reach.

Easy and Inexpensive

Perhaps ten or more years ago, producing some sort of video would have been pricey.  However, today your phone has better cameras for videos than camcorders ten years ago.  Depending on the quality, you can have a easily created video in a short amount of time.

The Mobile Device Aspect

This one is obvious, but worth mentioning.  Smart phones are now responsible for 40% of the YouTube watch time.  This means that a video you create with your personal brand, might have a better chance of being viewed than your website and information.

What Does it Mean?

This means that creating videos for you business are actually have more value than your website.  Websites are now more of a tool to give the basic information to people or order your products.  Using items such as Google+ and YouTube need to be used for spreading your business, making yourself known, and socializing with potential, current, and future customers.
